Camille was nominated by the Berwick Area YMCA CEO, Nick P. Here’s why Nick thinks Camille deserved to be recognized as a good neighbor:

Camille is our (Berwick Area YMCA) Chief Financial Officer. She has been here for 24 years. She started part-time as a favor to the previous CEO. Our accounting was a mess and she was tasked with rebuilding the entire accounting system from nothing. She only intended it to be a temporary position, but she fell in love with the YMCA and our mission to build a stronger community and never left. She is now our longest-tenured employee.

Her skills in managing our cash flow during the very difficult financial years are a large part of the reason we are still here today. Nobody else – members or other staff – saw the daily stress of managing the finances with really no money to meet our obligations. It was a tremendous challenge to meet every single payroll. To her credit, she bought into the vision of creating a strong, vibrant YMCA that would serve all and become a cornerstone of the very fabric of Berwick.

Camille’s first experiences with the YMCA came as a youth where she spent long hours at the YMCA in their game room playing ping pong and cards. She and her friends spent so many hours there, they decided the YMCA needed a sorority and the Y TRI HIGHERS was born at the Berwick YMCA. She doesn’t remember the little club accomplishing much, but her community service bug was caught.

When she moved from the area with her husband she joined the YMCA is Spartanburg, SC. The YMCA was such a support system to her and that it became the drive to serve the YMCA and give back to the community now.

In 2018 she was awarded the American Red Cross Hero Award for saving the life of a member who went into cardiac arrest while playing basketball at the YMCA. Camille was also the recipient of the very first Berwick Area YMCA Staff Member of the Year Award. During three capital campaigns and projects here she was instrumental in their success by contributing many of the ideas and concepts during the design of the projects. Her contributions here have resulted in a thriving, vibrant YMCA that serves over 4,000 members. She lives the YMCA mission of strengthening our community by putting Christian principles into practice. Beside the YMCA she has been active in community service through Berwick Business and Professional Women, serving as an officer and president of the Berwick chapter.
